It may be just a northern Ohio thing, but Jonagold apples are the best around here. Delicious raw, holds their shape and taste when cooked or baked, they're the ones I go to the orchard for.
Agree with othersβ concerns re: absence of a honeycrisp on this list, as they are quite delightful imo, despite being at least 2x more expensive than any other apple at my coop or at the devilβs store, Whole Foods. Love a pink lady also (TWSS).
Here is a list of all the apples developed by the University of Minnesota. Every apple need is met. This commitment to excellence in the public good is why I moved here.
WHERE IS SWEETANGO! IT'S FROM MINNESOTA! I demand a redo!
I can't remember which newsletter pointted me in. the direction of apple rankings.com, but they ranked SweeTango number one, and did NOT like Cosmic Crisp.
My faves are Pink Lady and SweeTango, my husband prefers Cosmic Crisp but he'll settle for Honeycrisp.
omg i also forgot sweetango??? WHAT was going through my head, Sweetango is delicious!! (and also rarely at my grocery store and now I'm mad about it!)
inspiring me to go seek out more apple varieties! the local food lion is plagued with red delicious unfortunately, since the south is more of a peach zone
What, no Honeycrisp? I was sincerely waiting for your thoughts! (Mine are that when they are good, they are sublime, but they can occasionally be total trash.)
This is amazing and I agree that red delicious apples can go to hell!
I thought it was gonna be about perfume, though, so I came with this already copied to be pasted (because the description talks about Newton under an apple tree).
Aaaaa I would happily send you a decanted sample! I bought this perfume as a gift to myself after thinking about it for a YEAR. I am literally invested in discussing it with people who care as deeply about these sorts of things as I do!!
Absence of Honeycrisp invalidates the entire thing thatβs just the reality of it Iβm sorry!!!
HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN HONEYCRISP????!!

I agree re: Macintosh but Liz says they are PIE APPLES and FOR PIES only
ok WE are right and you can tell LIZ that spreading this kind of PROPAGANDA will not be tolerated!!
Haraldsons are Minnesota Apple Perfection. Tart, crisp and sweet. Granny Smiths are derogatory, yes, but only good for making pies.
ok i have never even heard??? of this Haraldson, UNFAIR
inspiring me to go seek out more apple varieties! the local food lion is plagued with red delicious unfortunately, since the south is more of a peach zone
ok red delicious is a terror but also, my kingdom to be in a peach zone, for real <3
